Narvik & the nearby - links & infoThe midnight sun is present from the 22nd of May until the 18th of July in our region. During this period the sun remains above the horizon and it is light all day and night. A clear view and a clear sky are necessary to see the midnight sun.Polar nights can be experienced from the 30th of November until the 12th of January. The sun stays below the horizon during this is the time of the year. During the middle of the day dawn sets in followed only a couple of hours later by dusk and then darkness. Just before darkness sets in there can be an especially beautiful blue light emanating from the south. The Northern Lights. Aurora Borealis is the Latin name for the Northern Lights, which are formed by solar winds penetrating the atmosphere around the magnetic North Pole.
